To Scotland with Love
by Karen Hawkins
rated 4 stars
I read this for #10 Step-back cover in the Readers of Romance Summer 10 Challenge
When Lord Gregor MacLean learns his childhood friend, Venetia Oglivie, has beenabducted by a fortune hunter, he rides off to Scotland in hot -- and very annoyed -- pursuit. Venetia's soft heart has gotten her in major trouble this time: if hedoesn't rescue her swiftly, the scandal will ostracize the provocative wench!
The only sensible member of her family, Venetia is sure she can fix any problem, even this one. So when an irate Gregor catches up with her, arrogantly expectinga hero's welcome, the sparks between them begin to fly. Then an unexpected snowstorm traps them at an inn, and Gregor discovers his feelings for the lovelyVenetia are far warmer than he realized -- fiery enough to burn down the inn! Nowif he can only convince Venetia that his motive for marriage isn't duty...but desire.
I thought it was a really cute story. I love a best friends to lovers book. Gregor Maclean and Venetia Ogilvie have been best friends since they were 8 and 5. Now, it seems that Venetia has been absconded by a lovesick pup. Gregor to the rescue. Then they get snowed in at an inn where they are masquerading as guardian(Gregor) and siblings (Venetia and Pup) Also stranded at the inn are a cast of silly characters.
Suddenly Gregor sees Venetia as a woman fully grown, and not just the girl he grew up with. He feels jealous and possesive and doesn't know why.
They kiss a few times and What?? Passion?! Yearning?!
It's not until the very end that they finally "get together" and even then it has it's twists and turns.
Over all a very cute story.
